July — Discover STEM Careers with Service Beakers

Hello everyone! This is Joey from the Service Beakers’ staff.

This month, I wanted to highlight some of the opportunities in the world of STEM (Science, Technology, Math, and Engineering) that are emerging. If you or one of your young students have enjoyed our lessons and activities, this is a great blog post for you!

The STEM industry is one of, if not the fastest-growing industries in the United States. STEM positions have a growth rate twice that of non-STEM positions, with a projected employment of almost 11.5 million by the year 2032.1 With this in mind, let’s learn about some of the emerging careers in this industry that you could have one day!

  • AI/Machine Learning Engineer: This type of engineer teaches computers how to learn and make decisions on their own, such as teaching a robot to recognize faces or play games. They create smarter machines that can help us humans accomplish more!
  • Environmental Engineer: This type of engineer helps take care of our planet. This includes finding ways to clean up pollution, ensure cleanliness of air and water, and find renewable energy sources that won’t harm the earth.
  • Virtual Reality (VR) Developer: These coders devise new ways to interact with technology through special glasses or VR headsets, and can create games, educational places, and even windows into other parts of the world that can be enjoyed by using these devices from the comfort of your home!
  • Healthcare Technology Innovator: These scientists use computers to study things like DNA and proteins. This helps them understand how our bodies work and find new ways to treat diseases.
  • Data Scientist: These scientists work like detectives, using computers to find patterns and solve information puzzles hidden in large data sets. They help companies and other scientists make better decisions by understanding the significance of our data.

This is not a comprehensive list, so we encourage you to do some more research to learn about all the possibilities of a STEM-based education! At Service Beakers, we hope to inspire more students to be aware of and excited about these opportunities.
